Brendan Rodgers "relaxed" over Raheem Sterling's contract situation

Brendan Rodgers expects winger Raheem Sterling to eventually sign a new contract with Liverpool.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has insisted that he is not unduly concerned by the ongoing speculation surrounding Raheem Sterling's contract at the club.

The 20-year-old has two years left to run on his current deal at Anfield, with the Reds known to be keen to tie the winger down to extended terms.

However, as yet, no agreement has been reached, with recent reports having suggested that Sterling and his representatives had decided to shelve negotiations until the summer.

Yet when asked for his take on the situation, Rodgers claimed that he did not fear losing one of his most influential players.

"I am quite relaxed about it. He is not going anywhere in a hurry," Rodgers said during his press conference this morning.

"He has this year and couple of years to go and to anyone looking at it, it is quite obvious – anyone looking at the best interests of Raheem will see Liverpool is the best option for his career.

"For any young player it is the best place to develop and I am sure the club and his representative will find the solution."

Sterling has made 26 Premier League appearances this season, from which he has scored six goals.
