RB Salzburg coach: 'Liverpool got Takumi Minamino way too cheaply'

RB Salzburg coach Jesse Marsch claims that Liverpool signed Takumi Minamino for a fraction of his actual worth.

RB Salzburg manager Jesse Marsch has claimed that Liverpool signed Takumi Minamino for "way, way, way too cheap" following the player's £7.25m move to Anfield in January.

Minamino arrived in Merseyside for a cut-price fee after the Reds activated a release clause in his Salzburg contract, and Marsch has insisted that the 25-year-old is worth far more than the comparatively small amount that Liverpool paid for him.

Speaking to the Liverpool Echo, Marsch said: "The thing that hurt with Taki is that Liverpool got him way, way, way too cheap. But this is part of managing the market and managing player contracts.

"We always have here, with the scouting team and the sports director, they do an amazing job, and we always have the next generation of players here and ready to take the next step."

Minamino has only turned out seven times for the Reds since his arrival, with three of those appearances coming as a substitute in the Premier League.
