Thomas Hitzlsperger: 'Kevin De Bruyne ready for Manchester City'

Former Wolfsburg midfielder Thomas Hitzlsperger believes that Kevin De Bruyne is "ready" for a move to Manchester City after maturing since his Chelsea days.

Former Wolfsburg and Aston Villa midfielder Thomas Hitzlsperger has claimed that Kevin De Bruyne is "ready" for a move to Manchester City.

The 24-year-old was signed by Chelsea in 2012, but made just three appearances for the Blues amid loan moves to Genk and Werder Bremen before being signed by the Wolves in 2014.

De Bruyne has since been in fine form for the Bundesliga club, which has led to speculation that he is considering a move to Manchester City.

Hitzlsperger told BBC Sport: "While he was at Chelsea, maybe he didn't have a good mentality, but he's become more mature, and he's taken on a bigger role in the team.

"He's the best player at Wolfsburg. It takes some quality to be the best player in the entire league that he was last season in the Bundesliga. That's why I think he's matured and is ready to make to next step and go to Manchester City."

De Bruyne has also been a key member of the Belgium national team in recent years, helping his side to the 2014 World Cup quarter-finals.
