Sir Alex Ferguson has insisted that he did not hand-pick David Moyes as his Manchester United replacement.
Moyes took over from the 72-year-old at Old Trafford in the summer of 2013 but lasted only 10 months before being sacked towards the end of United's worst ever Premier League season.
There have been suggestions that Ferguson personally chose Moyes as his successor, but the United manager of 27 years has stressed that everything was done "the right way" in the appointment of his Scottish compatriot.
"There appears to be an accepted view out there that there was no process. Nonsense," he writes in his updated autobiography, Fergie.
"We feel we did everything the right way - quietly, thoroughly, professionally."
Moyes has recently revealed that he is looking to return to management.
