Joe Hart: 'We are proud to play with Wayne Rooney'

Joe Hart claims that it was the "easy choice" for Roy Hodgson to hand the England captaincy to Wayne Rooney.

Joe Hart has claimed that the England squad are proud to be captained by Wayne Rooney ahead of the Euro 2016 qualifying campaign.

Rooney, who took the armband following Steven Gerrard's retirement from international football, scored the winner against Norway at Wembley on Wednesday night in his first game as captain, and Hart is certain that the Manchester United forward is the right person to lead the side.

"He has been Wayne. That's who he is," the Manchester City goalkeeper told reporters. "He is the main man in English football and someone we are proud to play behind.

"It was an easy choice for Wayne to be captain, and easy for us to play behind.

"Wayne is exactly the same as he was when he wasn't captain."

England take on Switzerland in their first qualifying fixture on Monday.
