Manchester United centre-back Harry Maguire has revealed that he is 'working on his leadership skills' amid claims from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer that the England international could become the club's new captain.

Ahead of last weekend's 2-0 loss at West Ham United in the Premier League, Solskjaer said that he viewed Maguire as a candidate to be the club's skipper moving forward.

Ashley Young currently wears the armband for the 20-time English champions, but the 34-year-old is unlikely to be included in the first XI when Luke Shaw returns from injury.

Maguire has claimed that he wants to 'improve his leadership qualities', although the summer arrival from Leicester City is currently solely focused on helping United improve as a team.

"It's something I still want to improve on, my leadership qualities on the pitch and especially my talking," Maguire told United Review. "I want to demand more from the players, demand standards, but I'm obviously not concentrating on that at the moment.

"I am fully focused on improving the team and getting this club back to where it should be."

United are currently 11th in the Premier League table with just two wins to their name ahead of Monday's home game against Arsenal.
