Graeme Souness praises 'workmanlike' Wayne Rooney

Former Liverpool midfielder Graeme Souness praises Wayne Rooney after the striker helped Manchester United to a 2-1 victory over Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.

Graeme Souness has praised Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney after he led his side to a Premier League victory over Arsenal on Saturday.

Rooney scored United's second goal as Louis van Gaal's team record a 2-1 win at the Emirates Stadium.

Former Liverpool midfielder Souness told Sky Sports News: "Rooney was very workmanlike and did a job for the team. I'd imagine he is first on the training ground and last off the ground.

"He just loves football and that's the way he plays. He's quite happy just to be on the pitch.

"That was the case tonight. His job, his priority was to stop Arteta getting on the ball and doing things."

The result lifted United up into the top four of the table for the first time this season.
