Louis van Gaal pleased with "very good performance"

Louis van Gaal hails a "very good performance" from Manchester United after they are held to a goalless draw by Chelsea at Old Trafford.

Louis van Gaal has praised his Manchester United charges for their effort in tonight's goalless draw with Chelsea.

The Red Devils were full of attacking intent in the 90 minutes at Old Trafford and dominated play with 67% of possession but failed to convert their chances into goals.

The result extends their winless run to eight games in all competitions, although it did end a streak of four consecutive defeats to somewhat ease the pressure on Van Gaal.

"I think it was a very good performance but you have to score the goals and we didn't," the Dutchman told BT Sport. "We forced our luck. [There were] two times at the post when the goalkeeper was beaten. Then we had a big chance also in the second half, two penalty cases, and we didn't receive that penalty. So we are forcing the luck but still we don't have the luck that we need.

"I have seen a good performance and we were the dominant team and we have attacked. We have created chances, we shot on the goals, on the post, we provoked the penalties.

"We are not lucky in the finishing I think. In former matches I don't think we have forced the luck. Now we have forced the luck but it is still not possible."

Van Gaal insisted that he would not resign from his position at United, claiming that the club's board have "no reason" to sack him.
