Sir Alex Ferguson announces that Javier Hernandez will not be permitted to play for Mexico's Olympic football team this summer.

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has withdrawn striker Javier Hernandez from selection for Mexico's football team in this summer's London Olympic Games.

The 23-year-old was enlisted by the Olympic squad as one of Mexico's over-aged players. However, the Scottish boss has pulled the frontman out of contention in order to "rest".

"[Hernandez's] form last season was fantastic," Ferguson told the club's official website. "He's found the second year more difficult, but a lot of that is down to not having a summer break for three years and playing every summer for his country.

"Next year he will be fine as we have agreed with the Mexican Football Association that he is going to get the requisite rest that he needs to perform in the Premier League."

The Red Devils coach could lose Danny Welbeck, Chris Smalling, Wayne Rooney and Phil Jones this summer due to Euro 2012 and Olympics commitments.
