The Metropolitan Police are investigating a complaint over an alleged racist gesture at Stamford Bridge.

The Metropolitan Police have confirmed that they are investigating a report of a racist gesture by a fan at Wednesday night's League Cup clash between Chelsea and Manchester United at Stamford Bridge.

Reports have circulated that a supporter made a 'monkey' gesture at the game, with Chelsea having revealed that they are investigating the incident.

Now the Met Police are investigating a complaint that they have received, which is believed to relate to the same incident.

"The police have received a complaint regarding alleged racist behaviour at Stamford Bridge," a statement read.

"An investigation has been launched. There have been no arrests and enquiries continue."

The controversy follows the ongoing saga in which referee Mark Clattenburg is alleged to have used inappropriate language towards two Chelsea players in the sides' league clash last Sunday.
