Manchester United reportedly fail with their bid to secure the signing of Urawa Red Diamonds goalkeeper Zion Suzuki.

Urawa Red Diamonds goalkeeper Zion Suzuki has reportedly rejected the opportunity to sign for Manchester United.

The Premier League giants have recently purchased Inter Milan stopper Andre Onana for a fee in the region of £47m, with the Cameroonian now regarded as the number one at Old Trafford.

However, with David de Gea having been allowed to leave on a free transfer, United are yet to identify backup to Onana, with veteran Tom Heaton currently occupying that role.

Erik ten Hag is happy to cash in on Dean Henderson at a time when United are required to boost their position with FFP in order to add further players to their squad.

That said, such a stance leaves them light of competition for Onana, and a wide array of goalkeepers have been linked with a switch to the Theatre of Dreams.

In recent weeks, it has been claimed that Suzuki features on that shortlist, despite having made just eight appearances in the Japanese top flight.

Suzuki, who was born in the United States, has been tipped to have a bright future, yet he lacks the big-game experience that would usually be associated with a United goalkeeper.

According to Sponichi, Suzuki has taken such a factor into consideration and rejected the chance to make the switch to the Premier League.

The stopper is said to fear for his potential inclusion in the Japan squad for next year's Olympics if he barely plays senior football over the next 12 months.

Ten Hag was not in favour of goalkeeping rotation during 2022-23, De Gea still being selected for the majority of cup fixtures despite Martin Dubravka and Jack Butland being available on separate occasions.

With United now participating in the Champions League rather than the Europa League, it would come as a surprise if the Dutchman changes that stance for the upcoming campaign.

A separate report in the Daily Mail says that Fenerbahce's Altay Bayindir is also on United's radar with the new season now only two-and-a-half weeks away.

Bayindir has been the regular between the sticks for the Turkish giants for the past four seasons, making 141 appearances in all competitions, while he also has four years still remaining on his contract.
