Manchester United will not be signing on-loan Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat on a permanent deal, according to a report.

Manchester United will reportedly not be signing on-loan Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat on a permanent deal during this summer's transfer window.

The Red Devils spent much of last summer being linked with Amrabat before finally agreeing a loan deal for the Morocco international in the latter stages of the market.

The loan is believed to be costing Erik ten Hag's side €10m (£8.6m), while there is believed to be a purchase option worth €20m (£17.1m) plus €5m (£4.3m) in add-ons.

Amrabat has made 22 appearances for the Red Devils, but he has found it difficult to impress and has not started in the Premier League since the middle of December.

The 27-year-old has played just 24 minutes of Premier League football since returning from the Africa Cup of Nations, and according to Tuttosport, he will not be moving to Man United on a permanent basis.

The report claims that AC Milan are keeping a close eye on the situation, with the Serie A giants emerging as a serious contender to sign him during the upcoming market.

Amrabat made the move to Fiorentina in 2020, and he has represented his current side on 107 occasions in all competitions, scoring once and providing one assist in the process.

The midfielder has a contract with his parent club until June 2025, but he is expected to leave this summer even if he does not make the move to Man United.

Amrabat was an unused substitute in his loan side's 4-3 victory over Liverpool in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup last time out, and he is unlikely to be considered for a start against Brentford in the Premier League on Saturday night.

The midfielder was in action for his country on Friday evening, playing 75 minutes of the national team's 1-0 victory over Angola in an international friendly.

Man United are expected to overhaul their midfield this summer, with both Casemiro and Christian Eriksen being heavily linked with exits.

There has also been speculation surrounding Scott McTominay's future, but the Scotland international is allegedly in line for a new contract at Old Trafford.

Bruno Fernandes and Kobbie Mainoo will remain vital operators in the Man United midfield next season, while Mason Mount will hope to put a frustrating first campaign at the club behind him, with the England international bidding to move on from his injury problems.
