Manchester United plan to open discussions with Amad Diallo over a new and improved contract, according to a report.

Amad Diallo is reportedly in line for a new contract at Manchester United, with the attacker becoming an important player for the 20-time English champions in the early stages of the 2024-25 campaign.

The 22-year-old moved to Man United from Atalanta BC in 2021, and he made eight appearances for the Red Devils in the second half of the 2020-21 campaign, but he then spent time out on loan with Rangers and Sunderland.

Amad enjoyed an impressive spell at Sunderland in 2022-23, scoring 14 goals and registering four assists in 42 appearances, and he then featured on 12 occasions for his parent club in 2023-24.

The forward's true breakthrough into the first team has come this season, with the Ivorian already making 10 appearances in all competitions, scoring once and providing one assist in the process.

Man United 'keen to open contract talks with Amad'

Man United have the option to extend Amad's contract for a further 12 months, which would take him until June 2026.

However, according to the Manchester Evening News, the 20-time English champions want to open talks with the forward over a new contract, which is likely to include a pay rise.

Amad has started four times in the Premier League this season, although he was an unused substitute against Aston Villa last time out, with head coach Erik ten Hag preferring other options in the wide areas.

The forward was named in the Ivory Coast squad for their October internationals, but he withdrew due to an illness, and he will need to be assessed ahead of Saturday's Premier League clash with Brentford.

Which other Man United players are out of contract next summer?

Harry Maguire is in the same situation as Amad, with his contract due to expire next summer, but the club have the option to activate an additional 12 months to take him until June 2026.

Victor Lindelof, Christian Eriksen, Jonny Evans and Tom Heaton, meanwhile, will all see their deals expire next June.

Evans and Heaton could potentially both hang up their boots, but it is also possible that new contracts could be agreed, with the pair potentially becoming staff members at Old Trafford.

Lindelof and Eriksen are expected to move on, though, with new deals unlikely to be offered to either player, who are not believed to be in the long-term plans of the new management team at the club.
