Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could reportedly be given funds during the January transfer window to improve his midfield.
The Red Devils were linked with a number of midfielders during the summer as they looked to replace Marouane Fellaini and Ander Herrera, who left in January and June respectively.
Reported moves for the likes of Newcastle United's Sean Longstaff and Sporting Lisbon's Bruno Fernandes did not come to fruition, though, leaving Solskjaer short of options in the middle of the park.
According to the Manchester Evening News, the United board are considering making funds available at the mid-point of the 2019-20 campaign to improve a vital area of the field.
The report mentions that the Red Devils had been interested in signing Christian Eriksen from Tottenham Hotspur, although the Denmark international is seemingly set on a move to Spain.
The 20-time English champions will attempt to return to winning ways in the Premier League when they host Leicester City on Saturday afternoon.
