Barcelona boss Xavi hopes that it is only "a matter of time" before the club announce new contracts for Ronald Araujo and Gavi.

Barcelona boss Xavi is hopeful that it is only "a matter of time" before the Catalan giants announce new contracts for key duo Ronald Araujo and Gavi.

Both players are out of contract in June 2023, and Araujo is said to be attracting interest from the likes of Manchester United and Liverpool, while Real Madrid and Chelsea are thought to be among a long list of clubs monitoring Gavi's situation at Camp Nou.

Barcelona president Joan Laporta recently suggested that the club were not close to reaching agreements with the pair over contract extensions.

However, Xavi has said that the lengthy discussions are normal, and the Spaniard is relatively confident that the pair will soon sign new deals with the Catalan giants.

"Araujo and Gavi are two very important players - they are a priority. It's a process. Sometimes negotiations drag on. We hope for the good of the club that there is an agreement. It's a matter of time, I think," Xavi told reporters.

Gavi has featured on 32 occasions for Barcelona in all competitions this season, while Araujo has made 30 appearances during the 2021-22 campaign.
