Adam Armstrong scores double as Coventry City thrash Millwall at The Den

Coventry City thrash Millwall 4-0 at The Den, thanks to goals from Adam Armstrong, Ruben Lameiras and Jim O'Brien.

Coventry City produced an impressive performance to defeat recently-relegated Millwall 4-0 at The Den this afternoon.

The game began in dramatic fashion as Millwall were given a penalty after just four minutes, when Coventry goalkeeper Lee Burge brought down Lee Gregory.

Gregory stepped up to take the spot kick, but Burge reached the ball to his left and kept the match goalless.

Just two minutes later the visitors took the lead, as Armstrong lobbed over David Forde from distance, before Ruben Lameiras doubled Coventry's advantage - cutting inside from the wing before producing a finish.

Millwall were unable to take back control of the match, and Armstrong added another goal for the visitors on 24 minutes, breaking the offside trap before producing a composed finish - a fourth goal in two league games for the on-loan Newcastle United striker.

Both sides hit the woodwork before the break - first Lameiras rattled the crossbar with a cross, before a Shaun Williams strike from 25 yards hit the post.

Millwall started the second half on the front foot, first Ben Thompson forced a low save from Burge, before a Steve Morison header was also kept out by the Sky Blues keeper.

Ed Upson had a decent opportunity to score for the hosts from a free kick, but his effort curled over the bar.

However, Coventry wrapped up the victory on 80 minutes through Jim O'Brien, who played a one-two with Marcus Tudgay before finishing past Forde.
