Quick-fire Will Grigg double keeps MK Dons on course in League One

Will Grigg scores a quick-fire early double as MK Dons go five points clear of second-placed Preston North End in League One with a 2-0 win over Scunthorpe United.

MK Dons continued their push for a playoff place with a 2-0 win at home to Scunthorpe United in League One this evening.

The home side were two goals to the good after just five minutes as Scunthorpe made a disastrous start at Stadium MK.

Will Grigg notched his first of the evening when he reacted quickest to tap home after Ryan Hall had forced goalkeeper Luke Daniels into a save.

The striker then claimed his second of the evening from the penalty spot less than three minutes later when Dele Alli had been tripped by the keeper inside the area.

A dominant performance for the remainder of the half saw chances fall to Alli and Lewis Baker, and the visitors were fortunate to get into half time with the score at 2-0.

After the break, Hall and Baker went close as Karl Robinson's side picked up how they left off before Grigg was denied a hat-trick with a good save after the hour mark.

Marcus Williams did well on 72 minutes to thwart Grigg as the Dons striker continued to search for his third of the evening.

The result means that Robinson's men are now five points clear of third-placed Swindon Town in the third tier.
