Following his side's Euro 2012 exit, Netherlands captain Rafael van der Vaart says: "We were bad and we don't deserve to go through."

Netherlands midfielder Rafael van der Vaart believes that his side can have no complaints about being eliminated from Euro 2012.

Despite winning nine of out 10 matches in tournament qualifying, the Dutch lost all three of their finals matches and finished bottom of Group B.

Van der Vaart, who captained the team as they lost 2-1 to Portugal in Kharkiv tonight, said: "We started quite well but we were playing against one of the better teams today.

"We lost three times. We were bad and we don't deserve to go through."

Van der Vaart opened the scoring in tonight's match. It was his 19th senior international goal.
