Preview: Newcastle Jets vs. Perth Glory - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Saturday's Australian A-League clash between Newcastle Jets and Perth Glory, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Two teams in the bottom half of the A-League table will meet on Saturday as Newcastle Jets host Perth Glory.

The Jets are without a win in their previous three matches, while their opponents ended a six-game run without a win last weekend.

Match preview

Newcastle Jets have been dealing with a poor run of form as of late, failing to secure a win in their last three games which has resulted in them slipping down the table.

The Jets are currently eighth in the table, and a defeat this weekend could lead to them falling into the bottom four, which is something they will be wary of.

Arthur Papastamatis witnessed his team struggle defensively in their most recent match as they were beaten 4-2 against Adelaide United, despite Jason Hoffman and Angus Thurgate getting on the scoresheet.

It was their fifth defeat of the season at home, but throughout this campaign, Newcastle Jets have been in stronger form in front of their own fans, which they will be hoping to continue this time around.

However, there was little to separate the two teams when they met earlier in this campaign, as they battled it out to a 2-2 draw which is a result each will want to improve upon this time around.

The visitors managed to pick up three points last weekend which was a much-needed result for the team after six-game run without a win.

Despite the fact that Jordan Elsey was sent off in the second minute of the match, Perth Glory still managed to defeat Western Sydney Wanderers by a goal to nil.

However, the Glory left things extremely late to secure that result as Aaron McEneff scored the winner in the 96th minute of the game.

Perth Glory will need to drastically improve their form away from home to build some momentum from that win, though, as they have only picked up one victory on the road all season.

Considering the fact they sit just five points above the bottom there is plenty of pressure on the team to ensure they try to push away from that heading into the final few games.

Team News

Newcastle Jets will be missing several players heading into this match as Jaushua Sotirio has got a calf problem, while Archie Goodwin is dealing with a groin injury.

Noah James is also unavailable, while Reno Piscopo has been brought back into the matchday squad for this weekend, potentially moving straight into the starting lineup.

The visitors will be without Elsey for this match due to the fact that he was sent off in their previous game which will see at least one change made to the starting lineup from a defensive perspective.

Fortunately for Perth Glory there were no fresh injuries picked up, and they will be able to welcome club captain Mustafa Amini back to the team following his own suspension.

Newcastle Jets possible starting lineup:
Duncan; Hoffman, Jenkinson, Jurman, Ingham; Buhagiar, Piscospo, Al-Taay, Sotirio; Mikeltadze, Grozos

Perth Glory possible starting lineup:
Cook; Duncan, Lachman, Beevers; Khelifi, Amini, Bodnar, Jelacic, Clisby; Williams, Taggart

We say: Newcastle Jets 1-1 Perth Glory

While Perth Glory were able to secure three points last weekend, neither of the teams have a lot of momentum behind them right now so battling it out to a draw would not be a surprise here.
