John Carver aims for improved home form

Newcastle United boss John Carver reveals that he hopes to make St James' Park "a fortress" for the rest of the season.

Newcastle United boss John Carver has admitted that he is keen to build on his side's 3-0 victory away at Hull City last weekend.

The win at the KC Stadium was the first in over a month for the Magpies, and ahead of the visit of Stoke City on Sunday, Carver has revealed that his priority is to improve his team's recent mixed form at St James' Park after just five points were recorded in four games.

The 50-year-old told reporters: "We've had some work on the training ground this week and now want to go back to St James' Park and make this place a fortress.

"It's a huge game. We're two points behind Stoke so if we win we will go above them, and that's our aim. We're not relaxing. I want to get as high as I can up this division. We are here to win football matches."

Carver was appointed as the club's new boss after the departure of Alan Pardew to Crystal Palace.
