Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas backs under-fire coach Jose Mourinho.

Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas has backed coach Jose Mourinho following the club's indifferent start to the season.

Mourinho was jeered by sections of the Santiago Bernabeu crowd on Tuesday night as Madrid beat lowly Alcoyano in the Copa del Rey.

Los Blancos were defeated 1-0 at Real Betis on the weekend to leave them 11 points behind La Liga leaders Barcelona in the table.

"It may be unfair on Mourinho," said Casillas. "He took on a new team with young players. Much of the success has been down to him, we have had some very good seasons recently.

"He is the best coach in the world and has shown this.

"Our trust in him is absolute. Mourinho is a coach who has given us much.
We hope to continue to regain ground in the league."

Real Madrid host local rivals Atletico Madrid in La Liga on Saturday.
