Scotland manager Gordon Strachan has described Darren Fletcher's return to the national squad as "terrific".
The 30-year-old midfielder has been called up for the team's friendly against Poland in Warsaw on March 5 after a lengthy absence with ulcerative colitis.
Fletcher, who plays his club football for Manchester United, last featured for his country in a World Cup qualifier against Belgium in October 2012.
"It was wonderful over the Christmas period to see him back playing football," Strachan told reporters.
"We have got to take it a stage further. I've seen him playing and he has lost none of his enthusiasm, which he will never lose. To have him back in the squad is terrific."
Fletcher has won 61 caps for Scotland since making his debut in 2003.
