Sevilla striker Alvaro Negredo has reacted magnanimously to his omission from the Spain squad that will travel to the Confederations Cup.

The tournament gets underway in Brazil on June 15, and Negredo has said that his absence from the squad just makes him more determined to prove his worth ahead of next summer's World Cup.

"I am displeased, yet it makes me think that I must keep working and doing things right so as to re-enter," Negredo told reporters.

"It has not been a good year for Sevilla and in the end we have not achieved our objective. In the end it is a group, if things go wrong in the whole group then it can have an influence, but hey, the players who are going have a lot of merit.

"Roberto Soldado is having a great season, David Villa whenever selected scores goals and Fernando Torres has many goals, important goals. In the end it is up to the coach (Vicente del Bosque), Villa does not play like a pure number nine, but more from the wing, the only one is Fernando, but Fernando has finished the season well."

Negredo scored 21 goals for Sevilla this season.
