Tim Sherwood shuns credit for Emmanuel Adebayor form

Tottenham Hotspur boss Tim Sherwood plays down his role in Emmanuel Adebayor's recent rise in form.

Tottenham Hotspur boss Tim Sherwood has refused to take credit for Emmanuel Adebayor's rise in form recently.

The former Arsenal and Manchester City striker bagged a brace in the 3-1 win away to Swansea City this afternoon, taking his total to six this season under Sherwood, having previously fallen out of favour under former manager Andre Villas-Boas.

However, 44-year-old Sherwood insists that he simply provided the striker with a stage to showcase his goalscoring exploits.

He told reporters after the win at the Liberty Stadium: "I can't take the credit for Emmanuel Adebayor, he has to take the credit. I have just given him the stage to go and perform.

"It's not as if he was never a good player. He was always a fantastic player. Everywhere he has been he has scored goals. He is enjoying his football at the moment and we are all reaping the rewards from it."

Spurs, who remain fifth in the Premier League table, moved level on points with Liverpool this afternoon.
