Newcastle United have reportedly moved ahead of Celtic in the race to sign Tottenham Hotspur defender Cameron Carter-Vickers.
The American international has just one year remaining on his contract, though Spurs do have the option to trigger a 12-month extension.
According to Football Insider, the Magpies have expressed their interested in Carter-Vickers and are the new frontrunners for his signature.
Celtic, however, are also monitoring the centre-back and may table an offer if Kristoffer Ajer does leave the club this summer.
Tottenham are believed to have placed a £5m price tag on the centre-back, who was on loan at Championship outfit Bournemouth last season.
The 23-year-old, who has now returned to Spurs for pre-season training, made 26 appearances across all competitions for the Cherries, scoring once in a 2-1 victory away at Bristol City in March.
