Sunderland's DeAndre Yedlin: 'There were positives to take from Everton loss'

Sunderland defender DeAndre Yedlin feels that his side's attacking play against Everton has given them hope for their future matches despite their heavy defeat.

Sunderland defender DeAndre Yedlin has insisted that his side could take positives from their 6-2 hammering at the hands over Everton last week.

The Black Cats slumped to the heavy loss just one week removed from their Wear-Tyne derby win over Newcastle United to keep them in the bottom three.

However, the American feels that his side's attacking play has given the team hope that they can start picking up points to ease their relegation worries.

He told the club's official website: "The football has been good so we're just looking to get some better results and really get the season started. I'm just trying to stay consistent and play my game to help the team win or at least get good results.

"It wasn't the result we wanted [against] Everton and we obviously have to look at the negatives, but you also have to take the positives, which are that we hit the post twice in the opening 20 minutes and we attacked very well.

"We will take the negatives and fix them and build on the positives."

Sunderland face Southampton in a Premier League clash later today.
