Sunderland manager Paolo Di Canio has reportedly made former German youth international Bastian Oczipka his latest transfer target.
Ozcipka helped Eintracht Frankfurt finish sixth in the Bundesliga last season, with a string of composed performances at full-back.
Di Canio thinks that the 24-year-old can help fill the void left by Danny Rose's return to Tottenham Hotspur, and rates the defender at around the £4m mark.
According to Daily Star, Sunderland made a formal enquiry to Frankfurt for Oczipka earlier this week but are yet to receive an official response from the German side.
The Black Cats have already made seven signings this summer, with deals for Gino Peruzzi, Tom Huddlestone and Emanuele Giaccherini thought to be close to completion.
