West Brom's Darren Fletcher 'motivated' by last season's defeat to Aston Villa

Darren Fletcher says that he and his West Bromwich Albion teammates are using last season's FA Cup woe as motivation for this weekend's clash against Aston Villa.

West Bromwich Albion midfielder Darren Fletcher has claimed that last season's controversial FA Cup exit to Aston Villa will be used as motivation for the players ahead of this Saturday's Premier League clash at Villa Park.

In the 2014-15 campaign, the Baggies suffered a 2-0 defeat in the sixth round of the tournament, which was marred by violent scenes after Villa supporters ran onto the pitch.

"It was a difficult week and things happened that shouldn't happen on football pitches," Fletcher told PA. "We've got to use that to motivate us to help us get the result.

"The passion and the atmosphere was fantastic and it's up to us to go and meet that challenge and give our fans something to shout about."

West Brom have recorded two defeats, two draws and just one victory so far in the Premier League this season.
