Malky Mackay: 'Wigan Athletic second best in Nottingham Forest defeat'

Malky Mackay says that he has no choice but to make changes to his Wigan Athletic side this coming weekend following the abject showing against Nottingham Forest.

Wigan Athletic boss Malky Mackay has admitted that his side were "second best" during last night's 3-0 reverse against Nottingham Forest.

Dougie Freedman's side claimed back-to-back victories with a straightforward win at the City Ground, which leaves the Latics eight points from safety in the relegation zone.

Ahead of this weekend's meeting with high-flyers Bournemouth, Mackay revealed that he intends to make changes to his side in order to freshen things up.

"I thought we started fairly well tonight but again we gave a poor goal away before half time and then after that we just didn't look as if we could get in their box," he told the club's official website.

"We were second best all over the pitch tonight and having too many players under par on one evening ends up in a result like that. Coming off the back of the last couple of weeks where they've all been at it, I would say there were maybe only three of our players tonight who showed anything like what they are capable of and numbers like that cause us problems.

"Certainly off the back of tonight's performance, there is going to be a couple of changes. It's back to the training ground, we've got another few players into the club over the last couple of weeks so they'll certainly be players getting their chances."

Wigan have won just one of their last 16 Championship games.
