Roberto Martinez happy with point

Wigan Athletic manager Roberto Martinez insists that he is happy with his side's 2-2 draw against Southampton in the Premier League.

Wigan Athletic manager Roberto Martinez has insisted that his side's 2-2 draw with Southampton on Saturday was a point gained for his side.

Gary Caldwell gave the hosts the lead at the DW Stadium before Shaun Maloney scored late to secure a share of the spoils for the Latics.

"It's a point gained," Martinez told Sky Sports News. "We knew Southampton would press us and stop us from being on the ball. I feel we accepted that.

"I have to give credit to Southampton for how they stopped us playing, but we showed incredible character and determination to get back level."

Despite the draw, Wigan are now two points from safety following Reading's win over Sunderland.
