Reading midfielder Dave Edwards desperate to play on Wolves return

Reading midfielder Dave Edwards admits that he is "desperate" to feature in the starting lineup in the Royals' clash with his former side Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Dave Edwards has admitted that he is "desperate" to earn a place in Reading's starting lineup for the fixture at his former club Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Last summer, Edwards's nine-and-a-half-year spell at Wolves came to an end, with the Welsh international having netted 44 goals in 307 appearances in all competitions.

On Saturday evening, Edwards makes his first return to Molineux with his new side, and the attacking midfielder has acknowledged that he is looking to make an impression at the home of the Championship leaders.

The 32-year-old is quoted by Sky Sports News as saying: "When I left Wolves this was the first fixture I looked for. I was unfortunate that when we played them at home. I had played the few games before but then we changed the system and I was the one sacrificed.

"I'm obviously desperate to play. They're a wonderful football club with great supporters and it would be great to go back to Molineux because realistically it could be the last time for me. I'm 32 now and they're heading for the Premier League.

"Hopefully I can prove my point in training and make sure I'm in the team, but my allegiances will be put to one side because we need three points more than them at the moment."

Edwards has contributed three goals and two assists in 23 league appearances for Reading.
