Fresh off defeating top seed Alexander Zverev, Arthur Fils aims to reach his first Masters 1000 semi-final as he faces another Miami Open quarter-final debutant, Jakub Mensik.
The dynamic Frenchman has overcome physical challenges to outlast his last two opponents, and he goes up against a well-rested Czech player who benefitted from Tomas Machac's withdrawal due to illness to progress to the last eight in Florida.

Fils experienced cramping in the third set against Frances Tiafoe in the last 16 and required treatment for a troublesome back after losing the first set to Zverev on Wednesday; however, the 20-year-old persevered to defeat the No. 1 seed for his sixth top-10 victory and first of the season.
Success against the German means the young French player has reached consecutive quarter-finals at Masters events, having accomplished the same feat in Indian Wells two weeks ago.
On that occasion, Fils was bested by a jubilant Daniil Medvedev, who was vying for a third consecutive title shot in California, but he faces a last-eight debutant in Miami this time, aiming to secure a favourable result on Thursday.
By beating Zverev, the three-time ATP champion improved his record to 11-5 this season, and enters his imminent quarter-final seeking a 12th victory to ensure a semi-final berth against Taylor Fritz or Matteo Berrettini.
Fils is one of only two players to reach the last eight in both legs of the Sunshine Swing, along with Francisco Cerundolo, who was beaten by Grigor Dimitrov on Wednesday, highlighting the youngster's admirable form in the ATP 1000 tournaments.
Having exited in the opening round last year, he now strives to advance at Mensik's expense to secure a spot in the event's semi-finals.

The anticipated all-Czechia tussle between Mensik and Machac was disrupted when his compatriot withdrew due to illness on the eve of their last-16 match.
Benefitting from his countryman's misfortune, Mensik aims for his maiden semi-final at ATP 1000 events, hoping to improve upon his last-eight finish in Shanghai last year.
Novak Djokovic ended that run in China in a thrilling three-set match, but he seeks a different outcome in his second quarter-final against an opponent with limited experience in such situations.
The 19-year-old has been nearly flawless on serve in Miami, surrendering only one game each against Roberto Bautista Agut and Jack Draper and not conceding a breakpoint in his third-round victory over Roman Safiullin; he hopes to perform just as impressively against Fils.
Like his French counterpart, Mensik seeks a 12th victory on Thursday, although his three wins on the Challenger Circuit contribute to a total of 14 for the season before facing the physically compromised 17th seed.

Head To Head
Next Gen Finals (2024) - Round Robin: Fils 4-2 4-3(4) 4-2
While Fils and Mensik will meet for the first time on the ATP Tour, the French player triumphed over the 19-year-old at last year's Next Gen ATP Finals in straight sets.
The 20-year-old has had mixed results against players ranked outside the top 50, holding a 23-12 record in the last 52 weeks, although he has won seven of nine matches this year.
The 17th seed's opponent is 6-6 against players in the top 20, although the teenager has defeated Casper Ruud at the Australian Open and Indian Wells champion Draper in Miami, either side of a loss to Alex de Minaur in Rotterdam this year.
We say: Mensik to win in three sets
Having appeared physically compromised against Tiafoe and at times against Zverev, Fils, who returns to the court less than 24 hours after defeating the No. 1 seed, might struggle against Mensik, whose last match took place on Monday.
