Venus Williams bows out at French Open

Venus Williams is out of the French Open after suffering a fourth-round defeat to last year's semi-finalist Timea Bacsinszky.

Timea Bacsinszky has registered a straight-sets triumph over Venus Williams to reach the French Open quarter-finals.

The eighth seed made a surprise appearance in the semi-finals at Roland Garros last year but she has proven it was no fluke with an impressive 6-2 6-4 win over Williams.

The Swiss dominated on her opponent's serve during the opening set as she broke three times to move closer to an appearance in the last eight.

Williams rallied during the second set as she threatened to take the match to a decider but Bacsinszky responded with breaks of serve towards the end of the set to clinch her place in the last eight.

Bacsinszky will now face Kiki Bertens after the Belgian continued her hot streak on the clay with victory over Madison Keys.
