Wayne Rooney returns to the Everton squad but starts on the bench for the Toffees' trip to Bournemouth this afternoon.

The 32-year-old is back in contention after two games out with the flu but is not one of manager Sam Allardyce's four changes to the side that played out a goalless stalemate against West Bromwich Albion on Boxing Day.

James McCarthy takes a place in midfield after being absent from the first team since October, Idrissa Gueye has returned to fitness to start, while Phil Jagielka and Aaron Lennon also come in.

Ashley Williams, Yannick Bolasie, Mason Holgate and Tom Davies are the men to make way, all joining Rooney among the substitutes.

For the hosts, Eddie Howe has opted to stick with the same side that snatched an injury-time point against West Ham United in the week.

Bournemouth: Begovic; Francis, S.Cook, Ake, Smith; L.Cook, Gosling, Fraser, Ibe; King; Wilson
Subs: Boruc, Pugh, Arter, Daniels, Simpson, Mousset, Afobe

Everton: Pickford; Kenny, Martina, Keane, Jagielka; Gueye, McCarthy, Schneiderlin; Lennon, Sigurdsson, Calvert-Lewin
Subs: Robles, Williams, Holgate, Bolasie, Davies, Rooney, Niasse
