Luther Blissett: 'Callum Wilson deserves England chance'

Former Bournemouth striker Luther Blissett says that Callum Wilson deserves the chance to play for England.

Former Bournemouth striker Luther Blissett has said that Callum Wilson should be given a chance in the England team.

England boss Roy Hodgson revealed on Monday that the Cherries frontman was under consideration for a call-up before he suffered an ACL injury that will keep him out for six months.

Wilson had netted five goals in six Premier League appearances before sustaining the injury and Blissett, who won 14 caps for England, is confident that the 23-year-old will get his opportunity with the national side.

"He definitely would have been considered when you look at the way he started. He picked up from where he left off last season and maybe seemed set for place in one of the squads later on this season," Blissett told the Bournemouth Daily Echo.

"The only thing you can do is cross your fingers that he gets over this injury. He needs to get back into training and playing when the time is right and rediscover that form he was in. If he does that, the opportunity will come again.

"If the England manager had Callum on his radar, he will be keeping an eye on him when he does come back. Hopefully, he can find his feet quickly and get an opportunity to show what he can do."

Wilson sustained the injury in last week's defeat at Stoke City.
