Liverpool full-back Jose Enrique 'in talks over return to Newcastle United'

Liverpool full-back Jose Enrique is reportedly in talks over a return to Newcastle United.

Liverpool full-back Jose Enrique has reportedly opened talks with Newcastle United regarding a potential return to St James' Park.

The Spaniard left the Magpies to join Liverpool in 2011, but in recent seasons at Anfield has struggled for first-team action.

Enrique, who has six months remaining on his contract, has suffered numerous injuries over the years and this season has been limited to appearances in cup games alongside the club's academy players.

According to The Mirror, discussions are being had over a potential loan deal, with the option of a permanent contract at Newcastle once the season comes to an end.

The report adds that Liverpool are willing to pay a portion of the £1.5m that Enrique is owed for the rest of his contract.

When the Spaniard left the North-East club in 2011, he criticised their transfer policy, claiming that they do not want to bring in "quality players".
