Sean Dyche: 'Ander Herrera sending-off was harsh'

Burnley manager Sean Dyche admits that Mark Clattenburg's decision to send Ander Herrera off during their 0-0 draw with Manchester United at Old Trafford was harsh.

Burnley manager Sean Dyche has admitted that it was a harsh decision to send Ander Herrera off during his side's Premier League clash with Manchester United this afternoon.

The hosts were forced to play more than 20 minutes with only 10 men after Herrera was shown a second yellow card by Mark Clattenburg, despite appearing to slip into the challenge on Dean Marney.

Burnley went on to hold out for a 0-0 draw thanks largely to a man-of-the-match display from Tom Heaton, but Dyche had sympathy for both the player and the referee over the sending-off incident.

"I thought the sending-off was hard on the referee and the player," he told reporters.

"It looked like he may have slipped accidentally as he made the challenge. I think that's tough for the referee, whether he slipped or did the challenge, it's a tough call."

United had 37 shots on goal during the match without being able to breach Burnley's defence.
