New Bayern Munich boss Julian Nagelsmann is determined to keep hold of Manchester United-linked Leon Goretzka.

New Bayern Munich boss Julian Nagelsmann has lavished praise on Leon Goretzka amid suggestions that Manchester United are keen to sign the midfielder during this summer's transfer window.

Goretzka's current deal at the Allianz Arena is due to expire next June, and Man United are thought to have identified the 26-year-old as the ideal player to boost their midfield ahead of next season.

However, Nagelsmann has said that he wants the Germany international to stay with the Bundesliga giants "for many years".

"Leon is an important player for us. I would be happy to work with him for many years," Nagelsmann told reporters. "I think very highly of him. He is one of the most dangerous midfielders in the world. Everyone likes to have him in their team."

Bayern CEO Oliver Kahn recently revealed that contract discussions with the German, who has scored 25 times and registered 27 assists in 112 outings for his current club, were underway.

Goretzka scored eight times and contributed nine assists in 32 appearances for Der FCB last term.
