Preview: Rijnsburgse Boys vs. Feyenoord - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Wednesday's KNVB Beker clash between Rijnsburgse Boys and Feyenoord, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Eredivisie runners-up Feyenoord travel to Sportpark Middelmors on Wednesday to take on third-tier side Rijnsburgse Boys in the KNVB Beker round of 16.

The home team beat second-tier side Volendam 2-0 on December 19 in the previous round, whereas Feyenoord defeated second-division club MVV Maastricht 2-1 on December 17.

Rijnsburgse Boys are currently second in the Tweede Divisie with 40 points from 18 games and are just one point from matching their tally from 2023-24 despite having 14 games left.

Manager Rene van der Kooij will have his work cut out to beat a third consecutive professional club in the KNVB Beker, with his team ranked as an amateur side in the Netherlands.

Van der Kooij's team have played their three games in the competition this season at home, and their three wins at Sportpark Middelmors was as many as they had managed at the stadium in their prior 13 attempts in the KNVB Beker.

Uien have triumphed in 10 of their last 13 games in all competitions, drawing two and losing one in that period.

As for Feyenoord, they come into Wednesday's clash having lost 2-1 against FC Utrecht in the Eredivisie on January 12, a match in which they only created one big chance.

Boss Brian Priske was appointed in place of Arne Slot, who left to join Liverpool in the summer of 2024, and his side are currently fourth in the top flight with 34 points after 18 matchweeks.

De club aan de Maas won the KNVB Beker last term, defeating NEC Nijmegen 1-0 in the final in April 2024.

Priske's side boast a strong away record, as while the team lost 1-0 against PSV Eindhoven in their last away game on December 22, they triumphed in nine and drew four of their 13 previous fixtures on the road.

It should be noted that the visitors have lost their past two games in all competitions, and have been beaten in two of their four most recent away fixtures in the KNVB Beker.

Team News

Rijnsburgse Boys are likely to name a similar XI to the side that beat Volendam, and this could mean that centre-backs Bram Ros and Rob Zandbergen appear in defence.

Nino Klaver and Steff van Rooijen started as central midfielders ahead of defensive midfielder Jeroen Spruijt against Volendam, and they could play behind striker Mark van der Weijden on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Feyenoord will certainly be without defender Jordan Lotomba due to the fact he suffered a broken leg in December, while Bart Nieuwkoop and Quilindschy Hartman are doubts.

Priske could start a back four consisting of Givairo Read, Thomas Beelen, Facundo Gonzalez and David Hancko.

Midfielder Quinten Timber has been ruled out, while In-Beom Hwang is a doubt, so expect Ramiz Zerrouki and Gjivai Zechiel to feature in a double pivot.

Striker Ayase Ueda may not make the matchday squad due to a hip injury, and if he is not deemed fit, then perhaps Zepiqueno Redmond will play in front of Ibrahim Osman, Anis Hadj Moussa and Luka Ivanusec.

Rijnsburgse Boys possible starting lineup:
Zonneveld; Walraven, Ros, Zandbergen, Van Kempen; Klaver, Spruijt, Van Rooijen; Asante, Van der Weijden, Kariouh

Feyenoord possible starting lineup:
Bijlow; Read, Beelen, Gonzalez, Hancko; Zerrouki, Zechiel; Osman, Moussa, Ivanusec; Redmond

We say: Rijnsburgse Boys 1-6 Feyenoord

It is difficult to see any outcome other than a resounding win for Feyenoord given the superior quality throughout their squad.

Rijnsburgse Boys will be buoyed by their home crowd, and it would not be a surprise if fans at least saw their side score against the Eredivisie giants.
