Tottenham Hotspur could be about to make a move to sign Christian Benitez from Club America, according to the club's president.

Club America president Ricardo Pelaez believes that Tottenham Hotspur could be about to make an offer for striker Christian Benitez.

The Ecuadorian, who has finished as the top scorer in the Mexican top flight for the past three seasons, is keen on a return to the Premier League, having been at Birmingham City until 2010.

While they want to receive a suitable offer for the player, Pelaez has revealed that the club will not stand in the way of a move for Benitez.

"There could be a good offer for Christian from Tottenham," Pelaez told The Sun. "I've spoken with him and he wants to return to Europe. We won't clip his wings if we get an offer that suits us.

"Of course there are bids for him, he has been the league's top scorer three times after all.

"He is a great guy and a magnificent player. He is under contract but we'll look to see what is the best option."

Benitez has scored 24 goals in 58 caps for Ecuador.
