Preview: Valencia vs. Cadiz - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Monday's La Liga clash between Valencia and Cadiz, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Valencia will be bidding to win in La Liga for the first time since the middle of September when they welcome Cadiz to Mestalla on Monday night.

Los Che, who are 10th in the table, entered the international break off the back of a 1-1 draw with Mallorca, while 13th-placed Cadiz suffered a 1-0 home defeat to Girona last time out.

Valencia have won three, drawn two and lost four of their nine league matches this season to collect 11 points, which has left them in 10th position in the table, four points behind sixth-placed Real Sociedad.

All things considered, it has been a relatively solid start to the campaign for Los Che, who struggled last season, finishing down in 16th, which proved to be their lowest spot since being relegated from La Liga in 1985-86.

Valencia's standout result this season was actually their last win - a 3-0 home success over Atletico Madrid on September 16 - but they have only managed to pick up two points from their four games since.

Indeed, Ruben Baraja's side have drawn with Almeria and Mallorca, in addition to losing to Real Sociedad and Real Betis, during a disappointing run of form, and it is likely that they will have dropped further down the table by the time that this match kicks off due to the weekend fixtures.

Los Che have actually struggled of late against Cadiz, losing three of their last five La Liga meetings, including both fixtures during the 2022-23 campaign.

Cadiz were 1-0 winners at Mestalla in the league last season and can certainly take confidence from their recent results against Valencia ahead of Monday night's contest.

El Submarino Amarillo are in their fourth straight campaign at this level of football, which is their best run since the early 1990s, so it is a successful period in the club's history.

Sergio Gonzalez's side made a positive start to the campaign, winning two and drawing one of their opening four matches, but they are winless since a 3-1 success over Villarreal at the start of September.

Cadiz have drawn two and lost three of their last five in the league, which includes defeats in their last two against Atletico Madrid and Girona, which have seen them drop down the table.

Gonzalez's side are still 13th, though, only two points behind 10th-placed Valencia, and they will be eyeing successive wins in the league against Valencia and Sevilla before taking on Badalona in the Copa del Rey.

Team News

Valencia's Javi Guerra celebrates scoring their third goal on September 16, 2023© Reuters

Valencia will be without the services of Thierry Correia, Mouctar Diakhaby, Jose Gaya and Jesus Vazquez for Monday's contest, while Sergi Canos and Alberto Mari are both major doubts.

Correia's absence will open the door for Dimitri Foulquier to come into a full-back position, but it might otherwise be the same side that took to the field for the first whistle against Mallorca.

Hugo Duro should continue in a wide area to allow Selim Amallah to operate further forward, while the in-demand Javi Guerra will again feature in the middle of the park.

As for Cadiz, Roger Marti, Luis Hernandez, Fede San Emeterio and Brian Ocampo will miss the contest due to fitness problems.

Meanwhile, the visitors will also be without the services of Darwin Machis and Ruben Alcaraz through suspension, with the former sent off against Girona and the latter picking up a milestone booking.

Lucas Pires could benefit from Alcaraz's absence to come into the side, while Machis could be replaced by Ruben Sobrino, with Chris Ramos and Maxi Gomez continuing in the final third of the field.

Valencia possible starting lineup:
Mamardashvili; Foulquier, Mosquera, Paulista, Ozkacar; D Lopez, Pepelu, Guerra, Duro; Amallah, Yaremchuk

Cadiz possible starting lineup:
Ledesma; Carcelen, Mere, Fali, J Hernandez; Alejo, Escalante, Pires, Sobrino; Ramos, Gomez

We say: Valencia 1-0 Cadiz

Both sides will be missing a number of important players for this match, and it would not be a surprise to see a draw on Monday night. Goals have been an issue for both sides this term, but we believe that Valencia will be able to navigate their way to an important three points.
