Arsene Wenger "worried" about Danny Welbeck injury with Euro 2016 looming

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger admits that he is "worried" about Danny Welbeck's Euro 2016 hopes after the forward limped out of the Gunners' 2-2 draw at Manchester City.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has admitted that he is "worried" about Danny Welbeck after the forward was forced off with an apparent knee injury in Sunday's 2-2 draw at Manchester City.

Welbeck suffered the problem midway through the first half and tried to carry on, but soon trudged down the tunnel and there are now fears over whether he will be fit in time for Euro 2016 next month.

In his post-match interview, Wenger was cautious not to be too downhearted but did say that at first glance it looked like a meniscus problem, which usually means at least a month on the sidelines.

"The first signs look like lateral meniscus," Wenger told Sky Sports News. "I hope they are wrong. Danny looks down, so he knows and he's not a guy who likes to go off. I'm a bit worried.

"I don't want to say about the Euros - let's be a bit more optimistic and wait for the scan tomorrow."

If Welbeck is ruled out, he will join Arsenal teammate Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who was confirmed as injured earlier this week, in missing the Euros in France.
