Arsenal could be easing Jack Wilshere back to competitive football in a series of behind-closed-doors friendly matches.

Arsenal may be forced to set up friendly matches in order to ease Jack Wilshere back into competitive action.

The 20-year-old has missed all of this season with a troublesome ankle injury, but is said to be close to making a return.

Arsene Wenger is keen to involve Wilshere in the Gunners' challenge for third place as quickly as possible.

However, with only two reserve fixtures remaining, the Frenchman may resort to arranging friendly matches for the midfielder to regain his match fitness.

Arsenal's second string play Newcastle United reserves on Tuesday, before facing Everton on May 1.
