Petr Cech is reportedly on the verge of returning to Chelsea as the club's new technical director.

Petr Cech is said to be on the brink of returning to Chelsea as their new technical director.

The 37-year-old spent the most lucrative years of his career at Stamford Bridge between 2004 and 2015, winning four Premier League titles, the Champions League, the Europa League, four FA Cups and three League Cups in almost 500 appearances.

The former Czech Republic stopper went on to join Arsenal for the final few years of his playing career, calling time at the end of last season and making a poignant farewell appearance in the Gunners' Europa League defeat to the Blues last month.

Speculation has been rife over the last few months that he had been offered coaching roles by both London sides but, according to Sky Sports News, he is now on the verge of agreeing a deal to return to Chelsea.

The Blues are believed to be close to appointing Cech's former teammate Frank Lampard as their new manager following Maurizio Sarri's departure for Juventus, and one of Cech's first jobs will apparently be to sanction that decision.

Chelsea have been without a technical director for more than a year and a half after Michael Emenalo left for Monaco.
