Arsene Wenger warns Tottenham Hotspur about new stadium

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger issues a warning to Tottenham about the difficulties he faced as a manager when moving stadiums.

Arsene Wenger has issued a warning to Tottenham Hotspur about the difficulties he faced after his club moved into a new stadium.

The Arsenal manager revealed the hardships he faced financially and competitively during the move from Highbury to the Emirates Stadium in 2006.

"If you look at the history of all the English clubs who have built a new stadium, and look at where they have finished in the league, then it tells you how difficult it is," the Frenchman told Sky Sports News.

"I always knew it would be the most sensitive period in the club's history. When we had to be in the Champions League, just financially, and would get to April, not in the top four – the stress was terrible.

"You feel the future of the club is at stake and you do not have a lot of margin for error. Every point you lose can be dramatic."

Spurs' plans to move into their new stadium have already suffered a few setbacks, as the North London club could be forced to groundshare with another club due to ongoing talks with a landowner on the new stadium's site.
