Aston Villa midfielder Fabian Delph has admitted he was shocked that teammate Christian Benteke didn't win the PFA Young Player of the Year Award.

The Belgium international scored a hat-trick in Paul Lambert's side's 6-1 win over Sunderland on Monday, which eased their relegation worries.

Delph told reporters: "The number of goals he has scored doesn't surprise me. We have three games to go and I could put a bet on him to score at least another three or four.

"He has dragged us through so many games. I was quite surprised he didn't get young player of the season."

Villa are 16th in the Premier League, five points clear of the drop zone.
