Paris Saint-Germain defender Maxwell has labelled Barcelona's Lionel Messi as the 'ultimate signing' for the big-spending Ligue 1 club.
The Brazilian played with Messi before making the switch from the Camp Nou to the Parc des Princes in 2012 and believes that, if Messi followed him, it would be the best possible transfer for the club.
Messi has recently been linked with a move away from Spain after an alleged bust-up with Barca manager Luis Enrique, with the likes of Chelsea and PSG apparently waiting in the wings if he were to move.
"It's hard to say who the best player I've played against in my career is. I've played against many great players, but I'd pick Leo Messi," Maxwell said, according to Goal.com.
"I've played alongside him and against him and, for me, he is the best player ever.
"It is difficult to answer who I'd sign if PSG could convince anybody to come, but I would say Messi."
Left-back Maxwell spent three years with Barcelona, winning a total of 10 trophies during his time there.
