Curtis Davies scores two headers to give Birmingham City a vital three points at Oakwell.

A Curtis Davies brace has given Birmingham City a 2-1 win over Barnsley at Oakwell.

Barnsley had an early chance as Jim O'Brien was well-placed to shoot, but his effort was blocked by Davies.

Stephen Dawson got on the end of a cross after 15 minutes and struck a volley, but it was well saved by Jack Butland.

The young goalkeeper was forced into an even better stop 10 minutes later as he dived to tip wide a Marcus Tudgay header.

However, despite Barnsley's chances the opening goal went to Birmingham. They won a series of corners and Davies thumped a header into the back of the net.

Just a minute later Barnsley went up the other end and levelled through a thumping drive from Greening.

Barnsley were almost in front immediately after the restart as Tudgay slipped in Chris Dagnall, but he stumbled as he shot and pulled it wide.

Rob Hall for Birmingham created space for himself neatly in the box but fired narrowly wide just before the hour.

Wade Elliott sent a 25-yard free kick just wide as Birmingham started to up the pressure.

It was Davies again who put Birmingham in front, this time heading home from a free kick.
