Borussia Dortmund ease to win over Eintracht Franfkurt

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Shinji Kagawa earn Borussia Dortmund a 2-0 win over Eintracht Frankfurt at Signal Iduna Park.

Borussia Dortmund boosted their bid for Europa League qualification by beating Eintracht Frankfurt 2-0 at Signal Iduna Park.

Despite a bright start from the visitors, it was Dortmund who created the first opportunity of the match when Jakub Blaszczykowski found space to deliver a cross which was headed just over by Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Dortmund were soon dominating possession, and they were gifted the chance to take the lead when Sonny Kittel handled the ball inside the box.

Aubameyang stepped up to take the penalty and there was no sign of nerves from the Gabon international as he chipped the ball down the middle to fool a helpless Kevin Trapp.

The forward played a key role in doubling Dortmund's advantage eight minutes later as he collected the ball from Erik Durm before picking out Shinji Kagawa, who finished off a fine move by slotting home from close range.

Frankfurt almost hit back before the interval when Nelson Valdez created space for himself on the edge of the box, but he could only send his effort just over the crossbar.

The visitors were on top after the break as they pushed Dortmund back for long spells, but Thomas Schaaf's side found it tough to turn pressure into chances.

Marco Reus returned from his latest injury setback midway through the second half, and his introduction added a cutting edge to Dortmund's play as he linked up with Henrikh Mkhitaryan before just missing the post with a curling effort.

The Frankfurt challenge faded in the latter stages of the game, and Dortmund were unlucky not to add a third when Ciro Immobile sent a shot inches wide of the target.
