Hull benefit from a Cole Skuse own goal to beat Bristol City 2-1 at Ashton Gate.

Hull City have recorded a 2-1 win over Bristol City courtesy of a Sone Aluko strike and an own goal by Cole Skuse.

The visitors took the lead after just eight minutes when some slick passing between Jay Simpson and Aluko resulted in the latter smashing the ball past Tom Heaton.

Ahmed El Mohamady spurned a good chance to double this lead soon after when he was sent through on goal only to fire his shot straight at the keeper.

The hosts got the equaliser after 25 minutes when Stephen Pearson cut the ball back to Steve Davies, who slotted home for his sixth goal of the season.

Hull came within inches of restoring their lead at the start of the second half when Robert Koren's 25-yard effort crashed off the crossbar.

Bristol City responded by hitting the woodwork themselves three minutes later, Ben Amos tipping Jon Stead's strike against the post.

The away side took the lead for the second time in the match in fortuitous circumstances as Heaton saved Aluko's initial effort, but Stephen Quinn's resulting cross hit Skuse and went in.

The Tigers should have moved further ahead with 10 minutes left when Aluko set up Simpson, but the striker dragged his shot wide.

The hosts almost grabbed a late equaliser when Matthew Briggs crossed to Ryan Taylor, whose header hit the bar before dropping into the arms of Amos.
